Programs and Hours of Operation

Our hours of operation are Monday - Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.  We are closed every Friday. We offer many different programs.  Below is a list of programs and opportunities that we can offer you. 

The Learning Center:  An adult high school diploma program. The Learning Center provides educational opportunities to students 16 years of age and older who have yet to earn their high school diploma.  Adult high school diplomas are granted to students who successfully complete all the requirements of this adult education program.  The Learning Center also provides the opportunity for adults to take academic refesher courses to prepare for post secondary education or improve skills.  Semester long classes are offered Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Each class is 1 hour and 10 minutes.

GED Preparation and Testing:  You can prepare for and take the GED (General Educational Development) exam through our adult education program.  The GED exam is a battery of five tests.  Please be aware that you can not just walk in and take the GED exam.  Students must first enroll at either the Learning Center or one of our locations listed below and take a series of required pre-tests to determine their rediness level.  Those individuals who pass the official GED pre-testing may schedule a time to take the GED exam.  Those who do not pass the pre-tests will get the instruction they need to help them prepare to take the GED exam.

    GED Locations:

          GED Preparation.  Crooked River Adult and Community Education Center, ME 04009 627-4291 ext, 23, 24, 60 and 62.

          GED Preparation.  Molly Ockett Middle School, 25 Molly Ockett Drive, Fryeburg, ME 04037  627-4291 ext, 23, 24 or 60. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

           GED Preparation & Adult Basic Education.  Spaulding Memorial Library, 282 Sebago Rd., Sebago ME, Wednesdays 5:15 to 7:15 p.m.  Please call 627-4291 Ext 23, 24 or 60 for start date.

          GED Preparation & Family Literacy Classes.  Charlotte Hobbs Memorial Library, 227 Main St., Lovell, ME 04051  627-4291 Ext 22, Mondays 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

          GED Preparation & Family Literacy Classes.  Brownfield Public Library, 217 Main St., Brownfield, ME 04010      627-4291 Ext 22, Mondays 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

 Family Literacy Classes are for adults with children (ages 0-8) who are working on GED Preparation or Adult BAsic Education.  Classes include literacy instruction for both adults and children, and literacy activities for families to enjoy together.  Incentives, such as free books, gas and food are available for families who participate regularly.      Call 1-800-757-4163 for details.

Career Counseling:   In a rapidly changing economic environment the need for assistance in connecting your skills and abilities to employment opportunities becomes increasingly important.  If you need some assistance locating resources, exploring your employment options, or are considering a  career change, an appointment with an experienced career counselor will help you get started in the right direction.  We are pleased to be able to offer these services at our Regional Adult Education Learning Center at the Bridgton Memorial School.  Services are free to M.S.A.D. #61 & #72 residents.  Our services include resume and cover letter development, career exploration and college advising.  Our career counselor can help you learn more about how your skills, abilities and work values connect to a variety of career pathways.  We'll help you set some realistic goals, explore your options to continue your education and identify activities that will help you on your journey to a more successful and enjoyable career.  For information or to set up an appointment call 627-4291 ext 60.

College Transition:  M.S.A.D. #61 & #72, is proud to provide free college preparation and advising services to the residents of our towns.  Our College Transition program is here to help learners of all ages:

  •     Determine readiness to take college level classes.
  •     Brush up on the skills necessary to continue a college education.
  •     Utilize our PLATO computerized instruction to increase skills in a variety of areas.
  •     Take classes to help prepare for college or to meet a pre-requisite for a college class.
  •     Take a variety of first year college classes offered at The Learning Center through Southern Maine  Community Center.
  •     Take the College Board's ACCUPLACER college placement exam.
  •     Receive college and career counseling assistance from our career counselor.

College Preparation Classes:

    English and math:  Learners who wish to continue their education may need additional coursework to prepare them for successful completion of college level classes.   Classes are open entry/exit for enrolled College Transition students and are designed to help students successfully pass the ACCUPLACER test with a score high enough to be placed in a college level English or math class.

    Plato Learning Lab:  Our PLATO Learning Lab provides individualized computer-based instruction in many different academic areas and prepares you to take the ACCUPLACER.  Our instructors are available to assist students in the PLATO Lab.  The Lab is open Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

    ACCUPLACER:  Enroll in our College Transitions program and take the College Board's ACCUPLACER college entrance exam free of charge at the Learning Center.  The test results will indicate how ready you are to begin college level classes.  A learner's options for remediation could include using the PLATO Lab or taking college preparation classes.  Call 207-627-4291 for registration information.

Ed2Go/ Gatlin Education Services

Learn from the comfort of home.  Courses start as low as $79.00.  These courses are Instructor-facilitated on-line courses.  These courses are informative, fun, convenient and highly interactive.  Our instructors are famous for their ability to create warm and supportive communities of learners.  All courses run for six weeks with a two week grace period at the end.  Courses are project orientated and include lessons, quizzes, hands-on assignments, discussion areas, supplementary links, and more.  You can complete any course from your home or office any time of the day or night.  Visit our website at http://www.sad61.k12.me.us/bms  or http://gatlineducation.com
